Things I Have Learned

Hola :)                                                                                        Monday, April 28, 2014

Hoy is mi segundo P-day, but really it's my first REAL p day because last week we were in the clinic with my companion.

Pero, Este Semana...where to start. I learned a lot!

I learned that Spanish is a work in progress. I'm understanding more and more, little by little. And sometimes I feel super left out when my companions or investigators start telling stories or something. But I realized that I would rather that now and continue to learn that to have a translator or something and be left out for my whole mission. Eh...did that make sense? Basically, it's really okay, and it's really worth it.

I learned that walking in the hot, humid air is a lot of work. And I really, really love wind. I think you probably don't understand how grateful I am for wind! It's my favorite.

I found out why somebody invented the washing machine. Because I don't have one!! Haha! It's really, not too bad, it just takes up more of my P-day! Rude! Actually, most people here have them, and a lot of the missionary's apartments have them, but I just got lucky :D

I learned that people here are always so accommodating, and so open to learning. Even if they're not that interested in the gospel, they would give a drink of water(yes, clean water) or let us use a bathroom.

I learned (again) that the ward members here are very kind and patient. Hahahaha this week in church I had to share a message in Española. It was good, because I just wrote it in English, and my companions helped me translate it into Spanish! And I got to explain why my Spanish was so bad and that if I didn't talk to them, it's because I don't know how. And a lot of people didn't look at me so weird after that.

Also, I got a chance to play the piano for church. It was so awkward! Usually, the bishop's daughter plays, but I guess she didn't know how to play the songs this week. So the choir director starts leading the song and my companions turn to me and say, "You can play this right? You should go play the piano!" But we were already singing. So in the middle of the first verse, I walk from the BACK of the chapel up to the piano and play the rest of the song. And  I didn't play the Sacrament hymn, but I played the last hymn, I guess it was okay...nobody really said anything.

Also, on Sunday we brought an investigator to church with us. His name is Pepe. I actually don't know if he can be baptized, because he has a disability, but he's smart, and understand everything, he just can't talk very well. Plus it's in Spanish, so good luck to me with that. But he is so kind! And his Mom, Maria, is also interested in the gospel. During a lesson, we were teaching about the restoration and all of sudden she said something like, "so the catholic church is false!"    Uh....well...when you put it like that.. I didn't understand everything, but she has very interesting views.

There's another family we met called the "Cartasguzdamente." Say that ten times fast :D Anyway, they have a lot kids and cousins, and one of the girls is such a trouble maker! She six and so far, her Spanish is the hardest to understand. And they like to hear me speak English :)

What else...I'm pretty sure there's no two houses alike here. Every house is a different color. And there's never ever any carpet. Tile or cement.

And we went to la playa hoy!(the beach today). We live about 10ish minutes away, and it's pretty beautiful! I decided when I get back from my mission, that's going to be one of the first things I'll want to do, is go to the beach. Which is sad because it's pretty far away

And we had Domino’s pizza for lunch. You have to eat the food here to understand the significance of that. I have a lot of beans. I don't know what kind they're called. Mm..yummm...junky American food. But, actually most of the food is good. Did I already tell you they like hotdogs? Maybe someday I'll find out why.

That's all I can think of to say today. I hope everything is going well!! I LOOOOOVE getting letters!! Even if I don't reply the same week. Like this week I don't have as much time to email because of so much laundry, because of last p-day. Please send me más cartas!!!

Gracias por todas cosas y su apoyo!! Que tenga una buena semana!!

Love,
The famous Hermana Daniels

Look at our beds.  . Hahaha   That's my favorite room because it's the only room with an air conditioner. And our beds are really close together. It's actually pretty fun!...Probably cuz my bed's on the edge...
